Under Jeremy Hunt’s Chancellorship, interest rates have risen to over 5%. This is having a massive impact on everyone with a mortgage. The daughter of one of our small band of campaigners is currently having to find £500 more every month – and she’s far from alone.
Of course, people who have a mortgage are the lucky ones:
- In 2023 there was a 27% increase in rough sleeping, and levels are now more than double when the Conservatives entered Downing Street in 2010
- A record 145,800 children in temporary accommodation – up 15% in a year
- A review of data held by the National Child Mortality Database revealed that temporary housing was a factor in the deaths of 55 children between 2019 and 2023, of which 47 were children under the age of 1.
But none of this is an issue for Jeremy Hunt. The man who twice claimed 27p for 900 meter car journeys has a portfolio of flats that he forgot to declare to Companies House and to the parliamentary register of MPs’ interests.
Unbelievably, last year, the rent charged on tenants in these flats increased 18%. It’s bad enough that average rents were going up 10% because of the housing crisis, but he was putting them up by nearly double this.
On top of this, safety doesn’t appear to be a concern of his either:
- Jeremy Hunt has consistently voted against landlords paying for the costs of building safety works
- And he has consistently voted against stronger fire safety measures
I wouldn’t want him as my landlord. And I certainly don’t want him as my MP. Let’s get him out!
Jeremy Hunt simply doesn’t care.
Let’s get him out!
